Ever since I posted my Apache Cassandra 3.x Associate Developer and Administrator certification on LinkedIn many people asked me about how to prepare and pass the exam.

The answer is simple - Practice!

Are you a seasoned developer working on Cassandra database for years? Or are you just dipping your toes into the world of NoSQL/distributed databases and excited to learn more about Cassandra?

In either case, having the credentials of a Certified Apache Cassandra Developer and/or Certified Apache Cassandra Administrator definitely adds a great deal of value to your profile. As per a survey by Dice.com, Cassandra is the top paying NoSQL skill. This certification is issued by none other than Datastax, the most popular licensed distribution company of Apache Cassandra.

In order to passed the certification I would like to highlight some excellent resources to prepare for the exam:

  1. Developer Learning Path by Datastax:

Start your Apache Cassandra Journey by going through the excellent training videos provided by Datastax Academy. The lectures are clear, concise & full of information, just the perfect example of a professional curriculum. The practice test in the end of each lesson is very helpful.

2. Cassandra Documentation:

Once your fundamentals are clear, I will recommend to go quickly through the official Cassandra Documentation by Apache Software Foundation. I am a strong believer in referring documentation as they always have the latest information in our ever changing technology landscape. This should also work as revision of the knowledge you gathered from the Datastax courses.

While these two should suffice for you to clear the examination, I would urge you to continue your learning with the following:

3. Administrator Learning Path by Datastax:

Knowledge of operations does help in understanding Cassandra Architecture at a deeper level. This will also help you in case you want to go for the Administrator Certification in future.

4. Youtube/ Github

The Youtube channel of Datastax is a treasure trove of various workshops on working with Cassandra. Their Github repository is also pretty useful for a developer. This particular workshop provides excellent resources to create your own Cassandra cluster on Astra for FREE and use it for your learning.

There are other learning resources available on Pluralsight, Udemy & Edureka and they are good resources of their own. However, after going through above resources, I feel they will be rather redundant.

While my suggestions do go beyond just the preparation for the exam, I feel they are indispensable for knowledge building because certifications without the right knowledge is not really valuable, right !!

So what are you waiting for? Get started on your Cassandra journey and reach out to me if you have any further queries.

Happy Learning!!
